The Clarios company is the largest battery manufacturer in the world. They make, among other things, the batteries of the Varta brand, which is well-known in Europe. The Optima brand is the top line of batteries from Clarios.
This company has three major divisions, the first division is automotive; the company is the largest supplier of batteries to the automotive industry and the only manufacturer to supply almost every car manufacturer in the world.
The second division is the Power Solutions which includes Varta and Optima. The third department is Building Efficiency.
Clarios' European headquarters is in Hanover. In 2011, CaravanMoverShop was able to visit the head office in Hanover and was given a tour. We are the largest dealer of Optima batteries in Europe. We visited the production line of Varta batteries there. This is quite special, in the period 2012, 2013 and 2014 only a large car manufacturer was given a tour.

Optima batteries are used in applications where a normal battery cannot suffice, such as Google data centers (in emergency power supplies), roadside assistance (as a jump starter), taxis in London (which start the engine too often and drive too short distances), milking robots, forklifts, but also closer to home: central automated waste containers.

The history of Optima goes back to the 1960s. The technology was developed for the American space program to supply energy to the first moon car, the Lunar Rover. The then new technology was the solution for the disappointing quality of normal batteries at very low temperatures.
This technology was purchased from Gates Rubber in 1972 and has since been upgraded for use in terrestrial items such as automobiles. The Scandinavian Gylling group bought the expertise of the Optima batteries in 1994. It was tackled on a large scale, a year later a factory was opened in Colorado. The success of these batteries did not go unnoticed and in 2000 Optima was acquired by Johnson Controls, the parent company of Varta. In 2007 Optima set up a new production line in Monterrey, Mexico. In 2019, the company was sold to Clarios.

Don’t save on the battery and charger!

After you have chosen the right mover, the next step will be the selection of a battery and charger. Generally a mover provides more power than a small car. All necessary energy is supplied by the battery. If the mover doesn’t get enough energy, sufficient power will be unavailable. There will be more wear and the lifespan of the mover will be shorter. We only sell batteries that we have tested and we are conservative and careful in our advice. In association with ACSI Freelife magazine we’ve tested different batteries with different techniques. The Optima Yellow Top AGM batteries performed well on a track of 90 meters with a gradient of 6%. The Reich MPP achieved the same. All other standard wet, calcium and cheap AGM batteries didn’t reach this distance. This despite the fact that the manufacturer stated that the batteries could deliver 70, 90 or even 110 Ah. Of course we were also interested in the long-term performance of the Optima Yellow Top 55Ah battery. Hence, we tested a 7 years old Optima battery. It drove the distance without any difficulty. So the difference in performance cannot be explained by the capacity of the battery but in the maximum delivery of energy. Most batteries cannot deliver the energy that is needed. We deliberate choose only a few battery brands and types.

Lithium maximum weight saving!

We sell three types of lithium batteries. Manufacturer Reich has the most experience with the MPP, and you will obtain maximum weight saving. Manufacturer PowerXtreme has the best prices. With the X10 you will obtain maximum weight saving. And with the PowerXtreme X30 you save weight and you can use it for a board network connection because it has more capacity.

If you have damage, or if there are problems after the warranty period, the brands PowrMover, Reich, Truma, and AL-KO offer an almost complete range of spare parts. So, if you have a small problem after the warranty period, you don't have to buy a whole new mover. You can often solve the problem with a separately ordered spare part. The spare parts of most movers are guaranteed available for 10 years. In addition, we have the most extensive range spare parts used and new in stock.
